Where do I go for…
Referral to a genetics service?
The following organisations provide a list of genetics services around Australia. Your GP or specialist can give you a referral to one of these genetics services.
What is a genetics service?
Genetics services are medical centres specialised in diagnosing and managing patients with genetic conditions, as well as their family members. Medical professionals working there include clinical geneticists, who are doctors specialised in genetic conditions, and genetic counsellors, who are allied health professionals specialised in providing support, information and guidance to patients and families about genetics and genetic testing. Some genetics services may be even more specialised to certain conditions, such as familial cancer centres or prenatal genetics services.
Support groups?
The following organisations advocate for families affected by genetic conditions and aim to connect families with an appropriate support group. Some of these support groups are specific to one condition and some are more general. Each of the following organisations provides a list of support groups that exist.
